Halloween is the one date on the embroidery calendar that does not move, and it is always closer than it looks. If you stitch to order, the requests start at the end of September; if you stitch for yourself, the hoodie has to be finished before the 31st, not on it.
These five Halloween embroidery designs come from the top of our 61-file Halloween collection’s best-seller list. Every one of them is digitized in-house, stitch-tested before release, and comes as an instant download in 6 machine formats (DST, EXP, JEF, PES, VP3, XXX) with a free PDF color chart. Four of them are horror-film icons; the fifth is for everybody who wants something spooky without a knife in it.
| Design | Best for | Sizes | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scream Ghostface Eyes | Chest or back panel | 4–10″ | $7.99 |
| Horror Movie Killers | Sleeves and chest | 3.9–7.7″ | $5.99 |
| Horror Movie Killers Friends | The one people laugh at | 4–10″ | $7.99 |
| Jason Mask Friday the 13th | Caps and patches | 4.7–7.7″ | $2.99 |
| Gengar Halloween | Spooky without the slasher | 4–10″ | $7.99 |
The most-bought Halloween file in the shop, and the simplest idea on this list: the Ghostface mask cropped tight inside a framed rectangle, so all you see are the two black eye holes and the stretched mouth. No knife, no hood, no background — the mask does all the work.

That restraint is why it travels so well. It is mostly pale grey and black, which reads instantly on a dark hoodie and still holds on a white tee. The frame gives the design a hard edge to sit against, so it looks deliberate on a chest placement at 4 inches and does not feel empty as a back panel at 10.

Four knives standing side by side, and each blade carries a face: Ghostface, Jason’s hockey mask, Michael Myers and Chucky. It is the design people pick when they cannot choose one slasher, and at $5.99 it costs less than most single-character files in the collection.

The vertical format is the thing to plan around. The knives are tall and narrow, which suits a sleeve running down the arm, a left chest or the side of a tote better than a square hoop. If you want the gorier take, the Horror Movie Killers Blood version is the same line-up with red splatter across the blades.

Pennywise, Jason, Michael Myers and Ghostface lined up in four panels above the dotted Friends lettering. It is the design that gets a laugh before it gets a scream, which makes it the easiest one on this list to wear outside of October.
Five sizes from 4 to 10 inches. The panel row is wide, so it sits naturally across a chest or the upper back of a sweatshirt; the coloured dots in the lettering are the only bright notes in the design, and they are what make it pop on black.

Just the mask: Jason’s hockey mask with its cracked top edge, air holes and red chevrons, and nothing else. At $2.99 it is the cheapest design in this guide, and the most practical one if you have a stack of caps or patches to get through before the 31st.
A single rounded shape with a strong outline is exactly what a cap front wants, and it is small by nature — four sizes from 4.7 to 7.7 inches. Stitch it on a black or olive cap and the off-white of the mask does the rest.

Not everybody wants a masked killer on their jumper. This Gengar Halloween design gives you the grin, the red eyes and the purple ghost body, set in a framed panel against a full moon, bare branches and pink wisps of smoke. It is the pick for kids, for Pokémon fans, and for anyone whose Halloween is more pumpkin than chainsaw.
Six sizes from 4 to 10 inches, which is the widest range in this guide. The purple and the moon’s yellow sit far apart on the colour wheel, so it stays readable on grey, black or navy.

Freddy Krueger — $3.99, 7.1 to 11.1 inches. Freddy lunging forward, glove first, in the red-and-green sweater. It is built for size: the claw reach is the design, so take it on a hoodie back rather than a chest.
It Pennywise Eyes — $2.99, 3.9 to 10.1 inches. The white face paint, the red lines and the red nose, cropped to the eyes. Works small, works large, and costs less than a coffee.
Scream Ghostface — $3.99, 4.8 to 9.7 inches. Dripping red SCREAM lettering over a small chibi Ghostface. The lettering makes it a natural chest or back piece.
Kuromi Halloween — $0.99. Kuromi in a witch hat surrounded by bats: the cute end of the collection, for the Sanrio crowd.
The full Halloween embroidery designs collection has 61 files, and most of the horror ones also live in horror movie embroidery designs.
Order early, stitch early. Downloads are instant, but your machine time is not. If you take orders, a design with a dozen colour changes can eat an evening per garment in the last week of October. The small files — the Jason mask, the Pennywise eyes, the Ghostface close-up at 4 inches — are the ones to lean on when you are short of time.
Dark fabric is your friend. Almost every horror icon is a pale mask on a dark background, which means the fabric can do the background for you. On black, the Ghostface and Jason designs need far fewer stitches to look finished than they would on white.
Give the dense ones a proper stabilizer. The framed panels (Ghostface Eyes, the Friends panel, Gengar Halloween) cover more surface than the free-standing designs. On a sweatshirt or hoodie, a cut-away stabilizer keeps them flat after the first wash; tear-away is fine for the lighter, outline-driven files on a cap or tote.
Horror is only one shelf of our movie and TV embroidery designs:
Cloud Designs is not a marketplace. Every file is digitized in-house by one designer and stitch-tested before it goes on sale, and the five above come straight from the top of the Halloween collection’s best-seller list — the designs customers actually buy, not the ones we would like to push. Every download includes 6 formats (DST for Tajima, EXP for Melco, JEF for Janome, PES for Brother and Baby Lock, VP3 for Pfaff and Husqvarna Viking, XXX for Singer), several sizes and a free PDF color chart, and our permanent offer applies: buy 3 designs, get 1 free, taken off automatically at checkout.
The Jason mask and the Pennywise eyes. Both are single compact shapes with few colour changes, so they run fast even at their larger sizes. The framed panels and the Friends parody take noticeably longer because they cover more surface.
Black, charcoal or navy for the slasher designs — the pale masks need a dark ground to stand out. Gengar Halloween and Kuromi Halloween are more flexible and also look good on grey.
All major home and commercial machines. Every design ships in PES (Brother, Baby Lock), JEF (Janome), DST (Tajima), EXP (Melco), VP3 (Pfaff, Husqvarna Viking) and XXX (Singer), so you only load the file your machine reads.
Yes — download a free anime embroidery design first and run it on your own machine and fabric.
